Aeration

Lawn Aeration Services Enhance Turf Care

Following a Spring Cleanup or De-thatching, an aeration may be recommended depending upon the density of your soil. If your lawn undergoes regular traffic from pets and humans, it is likely that soil compaction may be an issue, which an annual or biennial aeration may alleviate.

Aeration is the process by which holes are poked in your lawn with spikes or cores of dirt are removed from your lawn mechanically. The holes thereafter provide direct access for plant roots to water, air and vital nutrients, making it easier for them to grow. The stronger and deeper the root system the more heat and drought-tolerant your lawn is likely to be.

The benefits of having Kodiak do an aeration are many. Performing an aeration on your lawn will also:

  • Bring beneficial soil micro-organisms to the surface which will help break down thatch
  • Reduce water runoff and puddling

Aeration is best done in conjunction with overseeding and/or topdressing and is generally of little benefit for soil types containing clay.

Signs That You Need to Aerate Your Lawn

  • The ground is hard and compacted (do not roll your lawn)
  • Thatch is building up
  • Water does not penetrate well
  • Weeds such as prostrate knotweed and clover are present
